The Great Star Flag, also known as the 20 Star Flag, was designed by Captain Samuel Chester Reid of the U.S. Navy in 1818. It featured 20 stars arranged to form a star, representing the addition of five new states to the Union. Although it was never officially accepted by Congress, it was popular during the early 19th Century.
